The Burlington Eagles ended 2022 on a strong note, with
three teams winning tournaments, six teams as finalists, and the Under 18 AAA
team finishing as semi-finalists in the prestigious Circle K Classic!
The Golden Horseshoe Tournament and Jamboree was a success,
hosting 81 teams in fifteen different tournament divisions along with an
additional six jamboree teams. Eight different arenas were used around Burlington
during the four-day event, with all championship games being played at Appleby.
The finals of each AAA division were even broadcast by Cogeco!
Two teams came away with tournament victories at the
Horseshoe: U12 A Gold and U13 A Gold! The Under 12 team went 6-0 throughout the
week with a combined GF-GA of 33-10. After defeating Applewood, Guelph, Niagara
Falls, and Burlington Blue in the round robin, they won the rematch against
Blue before defeating Niagara Falls handily 7-1 in the finals to be Horseshoe champions!
Congratulations!
The Under 13 A Gold team took a little longer to get going,
but once the momentum started there was no stopping the Eagles. Starting off
the tournament with two ties against Applewood and Glancaster, the Eagles then
defeated Burlington Blue 5-2 to set up a rematch with Applewood. A resounding
10-0 victory pushed the Eagles to the finals against the Burlington Blue team,
whom they defeated a second time 5-0 to win the Horseshoe championship!
Congratulations Eagles!
Our U18 AA team didn’t have a Horseshoe division, so they
traveled to Brampton to enter the Regional Silver Stick qualification tournament.
Going 2-1 in the round robin with victories over Halton Hills and Glancaster
and a defeat to Waterloo earned the Eagles a spot in the semi-finals. Facing
off against the Mississauga Rattlers, the Eagles won their semi 4-0 to have a
rematch against Halton Hills. Once again not allowing a goal, the Eagles won
the final game 2-0 to win the Silver Stick qualifier and have booked their
ticket to the International Silver Stick Finals in Sarnia from January 12-15!
Congratulations to the U18 AA Eagles on a hard-earned effort after three
players were unable to continue after game one and the U18 A team loaned up two
APs. Good luck two weekends from now!
The Horseshoe also saw six Eagles teams make the finals of
their divisions, but unable to win the last game. Our U10 A, U10 AA, U11 AA
Gold, U13 A Blue, U14 A Gold, and U14 AA teams all had successful weekends in
Burlington over the winter break but were just unable to win the championship
game. Overall, of the 15 divisions the Horseshoe hosted we had eight separate
Eagles teams in their division championship game!
Finally, the U18 AAA team went out to Calgary over the winter
break to compete in the Circle K Classic. Facing off against a mix of representative
teams and prep schools from all across Canada, the United States, and some
European teams, the Eagles won all three of their round robin games against the
Vancouver NW Hawks (6-0), the St. Albert Raiders (4-2), and the Edmonton Oilers
Blue (3-0). A quarter-final matchup against NAX saw the Eagles victorious with
a score of 4-0, earning them a position in the semi-finals of the 32 team
tournament. Unfortunately, the Eagles were defeated by the South Alberta Hockey
Academy 4-1, who would eventually go on to be tournament champions.
Congratulations on an incredibly successful trip to our U18 AAA Eagles!
The Eagles family would like to extend a huge
congratulations to all of the teams that were successful at the end of 2022,
and we hope everyone had a happy holiday season and that we bring the momentum
into 2023!
