Two
of our Eagles teams won tournaments last weekend – the U14 AA Eagles won the
Hamilton Huskies Classic, and our U15 A Gold team won the Regional Silver Stick
Qualifier in Pelham!
The Under 14 AA team had an extremely competitive weekend from start to finish, despite the results not always going the right way. Opening the tournament with two 1-0 losses against the TNT Tornados and the North Durham Warriors, the Eagles battled back to tie the Hamilton Huskies 1-1 and move through as the 4th seed.
Coming back up against the 1st seed Huskies, the Eagles pulled off the win 2-1 to advance to the final! A rematch against the opening opponent the TNT Tornadoes, the Eagles won the game 3-2 to win the Hamilton Huskies Classic! Congratulations to all the players and staff on a successful weekend!
Our U15 A Gold team travelled to Pelham to participate in the Regional Silver Stick Qualifier. Wins against Welland, Pelham, and a loss against Norfolk meant the Eagles were going into Sunday morning needing a win against the West Niagara Flying Aces to guarantee their spot in the championship game. A resounding 6-1 victory meant that the Eagles qualified for the championship game later that afternoon, with a rematch against Norfolk on the cards!
The Eagles stepped out to a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period, and extended it to 3-1 entering the dressing room during the 2nd intermission. Three quick goals to start the third period brought the game within one, the Eagles re-extended their lead to two, and then Norfolk brought it back to within one goal. Holding on strong, Burlington added two late goals to secure the victory 6-3 and win the regional qualifier! Congratulations to the players and staff, and good luck in the International Silver Stick Finals!
