J.D. MCNEIL WINS RON WILKINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Burlington City Rep Hockey Club is extremely excited to
award the 2019-20 Ron Wilkins Memorial Scholarship to J.D. McNeil! This
scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating Midget player who best
exemplifies leadership, strength in character, sportsmanship, as well as
academic and athletic achievement. J.D. recently graduated from MM Robinson
High School and will be going to the University of McMaster to pursue a degree
in commerce at the DeGroote School of Business.
J.D. first played with the Eagles in his U13 season after previously playing with BLOMHA. He played at all three levels of A, AA, and AAA throughout his time at the Eagles, including an OMHA championship victory with U16 AA Gold team. The next season was the first of J.D.’s two seasons on the U18 AAA team, and he was even named captain of the 2019-20 team. This year’s U18 AAA team was just one win away from competing in the OMHA championships before the season was shut down due to COVID-19.
J.D. also has a decorated academic resume. Graduating from MM Robinson High School on the Honour Roll, J.D. served on the student council, was president of the music council, was a link crew leader, and completed his Specialist High School Major in Business. He managed to complete all this while also playing various varsity sports, as well as having a part-time job with the Heritage Place Retirement Home. When J.D. wasn’t at school, work, or playing with the Eagles, he also managed to find time to give back to the community with the Gift of Giving Back, the Rotary Club of Burlington, The Inside Ride, as well as Relay for Life.
All of us here at the Eagles are extremely proud of you J.D. for everything you have accomplished with our teams, as well as the kind of person you have proven yourself to be off ice. We have no doubts that you will continue to excel in all fields that you pursue and will continue to use your experience with the Eagles to propel yourself forward.
