Better Late Than Never - The Slackers
I can't say I am familiar with the musical stylings of The Slackers, but we are all familiar with the theme of their 1996 album - Better Late Than Never.
The boys kicked off yesterday's game versus the Blue Oakville Rangers in all too familiar fashion, ie. like a car with square tires, or maybe a tractor with flat tires.
Oakville's relentless first period attack was mercifully limited to just one-goal-in-the-hole thanks to some in-wicket heroics by Chocolate Balls McBay. The first intermission message was simple as the boys returned to basic hockey with a classic dump & chase attack. When our convocation of eagles begin to forecheck the ice normally tilts in our direction - we create space on the ice, panic in the opposition and we begin to move the puck...even using our defence (note sarcasm).
Devon 'Devo' Bennewies had a remarkable 65 second shift in the second with three golden opportunities to score. It didn't happen, but it was a key point in the game placing the Rangers on their proverbial heels. Each one of our forward lines participated in the scoring, a testament to a balanced offensive attack. Our defence provided steadfast blue-line anchorage and participated offensively as #2 launched a couple of rockets from the point, one of which included a completely on-edge biscuit.
A 5-2 victory was capped off with a bar-down empty netter (you read that correctly) by Rosser. Brody assures coaches that's not in his training repertoire.
