Richard Bell Memorial Tournament Champions
The Burlington Eagles Minor Peewee A team participated in the 22nd Annual Richard Bell Memorial Minor Hockey Tournament this past weekend.

The team began the tournament on Saturday December 27th with their first game against the Burlington Bulldogs White, shutting them out 3-0.    The second game of the tournament had the boys facing the Cooksville Phantoms, taking their second victory with a score of 4-2.  The third game in round robin play were against the Port Credit Storm, where the boys dominated winning 7-0.  Going into the last game of group play, the team was tied for first place with the Uxbridge Stars and the Oakville Rangers, all with 3 straight wins and 6 points each.  The Eagles 4th game had them facing the Oakville Rangers, a team they had not beaten in regular season play.  They rose to the challenge, came into the game determined and played one of their best games this entire season!  They out played Oakville and broke their team's winning streak, beating them 5-1.  After 4 games, the standings had the Eagles tied with the Uxbridge Stars for first place, having the same number of points and GF/GA percentage.  The tie breaker for first place was determined by the team with the least penalty minutes.  With only 18 penalty minutes, the Eagles edged into first place.  Semi-final action had the Eagles playing against the Halton Hills Thunder.  The boys shut them out with a score of 6-0.  Going into the final championship game the Eagles were facing the Uxbridge Stars, who had knocked Oakville out of their own tournament during semi-final play.  The boys went ahead of Uxbridge, scoring the first goal in the first minute of the game.  An early goal was the momentum the team needed.  The Eagles were able to secure a second goal late in the second period.  The Stars came back to get their first goal with 13 minutes left remaining in the third period.  With one goal separating the teams, Uxbridge called a time out in the last 2 minutes of play and pulled their goalie in an effort to tie the game.  In a nail biter, the boys stayed strong, fought hard and came out victorious to clinch the title!  An awesome team effort Eagles!  You played hard and worked together as a team!
