Re: The Gift of Giving Back Food Drive
This is the fifth consecutive year in which I have been actively and personally involved with the Gift of Giving Back Food Drive where you, the players, have collected hundreds of tons of non-perishable food items that were given to needy families in Burlington and the surrounding area.
With the support of your respective league executives, conveners, coaches, managers and, of course, your parents, you have made a difference in the lives of hundreds of men, women and children whose survival, in many cases, depends on your hard work and your unselfish sacrifice of time.
Knocking on doors, standing in supermarket parking lots with your blue bags, holding garage sales and organizing individual food drives of all sorts have enabled us to assist people who are often not in a position to help themselves.
This year we are asking you again to be our partners in our common goal of eliminating hunger. Many of you have already been involved with the “Gift”; some of you may be new to the experience. No matter which of the two categories describes you, we are happy to know that you are going to help. It is an enlightening experience you will never forget.
Your motto of “Kids Helping Feed Kids” is a very appropriate one because it exposes two realities:
· that there are hungry people in our midst - including many students your age
· that young people still in school care and are willing to do something to change this sad situation
We are counting on you to please help us by collecting food for the Burlington Food Bank where your efforts will have a substantial impact on the lives of so many people right here in your own home town.
Good luck to each and every one of you in the upcoming 2018-2019 hockey season - and, please remember- even if your team does not finish first in the standings, you are all Number One in our eyes and in the eyes of the less fortunate people that you will be helping.
