The Burlington Eagles have had a successful October so far,
with three teams winning three tournaments in successive weekends! The U16 AA
Gold team was victorious in Pittsburgh, the U18 AAA team won the Ottawa
Senators showcase, and the U15 AA team took home the Kawartha Early Bird
tournament last weekend.
Travelling to Pittsburgh during Canadian Thanksgiving and
Columbus Day weekend, the Under 16 AA Gold Eagles won the Columbus Day Clash in
undefeated fashion! Going 4-0 in the round robin against the Mt. Lebanon Hornets
and DME Swamp Rabbits gave them a direct line to the final. After the two other
teams battled in a semi-final, the Eagles then defeated the DME Swamp Rabbits
for a third time, 5-1, to win the tournament. A great weekend for the Eagles
outscoring their opponents 27-7 over the five games, and congratulations to the
team!
The Under 18 AAA team travelled to Ottawa to compete in the
U18 AAA Ottawa Senators Showcase as the defending champions. Two wins against
the Toronto Red Wings and Ottawa Valley Titans, and a 1-1 draw against the
North Central Predators was enough to put the Eagles through to the Round of 16
where they faced off against their league rivals the Oakville Rangers. A tight
battle that went to overtime was solved very quickly as the Eagles scored 20
seconds in to move on to the quarter-finals. Jumping immediately into the cars
and driving straight to other facility to play the Markham Waxers, where the
Eagles moved through with a 4-0 victory.
Waking up on the Sunday for the semi-finals the Eagles came
up against the Peterborough Petes. Despite going down 1-0 early in the 2nd
period, the Eagles scored three unanswered goals to win the game 3-1 and move
to the finals! The championship game was against the Elgin-Middlesex Canucks
who were yet to lose a game after dropping their opener of the tournament. The
same formula from the morning game worked, as the Eagles were down 1-0 after
the first period, but came back to score four answered goals to win the
tournament 4-1! Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and parents on a successful
and grueling weekend.
Finally, our Under 15 AA team went up to Peterborough to
compete in the Kawartha Early Bird tournament. Going 3-0 in the round robin with
wins over the Mississauga North Stars (4-3), Ajax-Pickering Raiders (3-1), and
the Northumberland Nighthawks (5-1) put the Eagles in the quarter-finals
against the Woolwich Wildcats. Their first shutout win of the weekend (3-0)
moved the Eagles onto the semi-finals and a Sunday game.
The Ottawa Sting were the next opponents for the
Eagles early Sunday afternoon, and the Eagles pulled out another shutout
victory (3-0) to move onto the championship game. A very quick turnaround put
the Eagles up against the London Junior Knights Green team in the final, who
were also undefeated up to that point with four wins and a tie. Despite going
down 2-0, the Eagles were able to claw back and tie the game up and force it to
overtime. With 9 seconds left in OT, the Eagles scored to win the game and the
tournament 3-2! Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and parents on an
incredible weekend in Peterborough.
