UNDER 18 A EAGLES WIN OMHA CHAMPIONSHIP
The Burlington Eagles would like to extend their congratulations to the U18 A Eagles for their victory this weekend in the OMHA Championship! The Eagles travelled to Whitby for the tournament from April 1st-3rd and came out victorious after their five-game schedule.

In the round robin, the Eagles drew three top-3 teams in their respective leagues. Winning both of their first two games while only allowing a goal in each of their first two games, the U18 A team then posted a shutout and scored five goals to secure 1st place after the round robin. The style of hockey in this final game would foreshadow how their semi finals and finals would go.

Going into the semi-finals, the Eagles never looked back with a strong effort against Innisfil where they scored a goal in each period for the eventual 3-0 win. Another shutout for the Eagles U18A team. This win would place the Eagles against the other top seed in Riverside who was also 4-0 up until this point.

Riverside was the only other team to post a better “goals for” than the Eagles team, but they were nowhere near in “goals against”. This game was a nail bitter throughout the game. Riverside led in shots after the first period 11-5 and again 13-11 in the second period, but nothing had yet beaten either goalie. It wasn’t until halfway in the third period when the Eagles struck and took the lead! The team was pushed hard by Riverside but did not bend finishing the game 1-0, while being outshot 36-23 in total shots.

After the second game of the tournament the Eagles goaltending did not let in a single goal! Three consecutive shutouts in key games and timely scoring were crucial to the success and furthermore clinching the OMHA Championship.

Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a tremendous accomplishment!
