The Burlington Eagles would like to extend their
congratulations to the U9 AAA Eagles for their victory this weekend in the SCTA
Wrap-Up Weekend Championships! The Eagles travelled to Pelham for the tournament
from March 25th-27th and came out victorious after their five-game
schedule.
In the round robin, the Eagles drew the three teams that sat on top of the standings at the end of the full-ice regular season. With some strong defence and timely offence, the Eagles sat in 3rd place after three games, solidifying a spot in the semi-finals on Sunday.
Coming up against the Niagara North Stars in the semi-finals, the Eagles fell behind early are giving up two goals in the first period against a Stars team that went undefeated in the round robin. With a stronger 2nd period, the Eagles fought back and tied the game entering the 3rd period, where a late goal with two minutes remaining was the deciding factor and placed the Eagles in the finals later that afternoon.
The opponent in the finals was the Oakville Rangers, who were placed 1st in the full-ice regular season and had also gone undefeated in the round robin portion of the weekend. The game against the Rangers was tied after the 1st period 1-1, and tied again at the end of 2nd period 2-2. The 3rd period was much more wide open, with both teams trading scoring chances, but once again the Eagles buried a goal with less than two minutes remaining to clinch the U9 SCTA Championship.
