The Burlington Eagles would like to extend our
congratulations to Mike Gilmore for winning the 2019-20 Casey Cosgrove Award of
Coaching Excellence! Mike has been a volunteer with the Eagles for six seasons
now, and this year was our Peewee (U13) A Gold head coach.
The U13 A Gold Eagles had a tremendous year, finishing the regular season tied for first place with 43 points after 28 games, as well as a goals for percentage of 0.745%. During the regular season they also won two different tournaments, one in Kingston where they won all six of their games while outscoring their opponents 20-6, and they also won a Silver Stick Regional Qualifier which saw them win the final against the only team that had beat them previously that weekend in Stoney Creek, with a convincing 6-1 victory.
Mike’s Eagles also had a successful playoff run, winning their group stage handily before beating Guelph in three straight games. In the quarter-finals the Eagles dispatched of Woolwich in 4 games, before running into the same St. Thomas team that defeated in the semi-finals the year before. Unfortunately the same fate fell on the Eagles and they bowed out to St. Thomas in three straight games in their semi-final appearance.
Mike has also proved that he can develop players, seeing 6 of his 17 players from the equally successful 2018-19 season move up to AA teams. He then took four players that moved up from the year before, and still put together a great team and a great season. Mike also had some great help from his assistant coaches Jeff Bent and Jim Moore, as well as the trainer Chris Jackson and manager Rick Barreto.
