BIG WEEKEND FOR THE MINOR MIDGET AAA TEAM CROWNED GOLDEN PUCK CHAMPS
The Burlington Eagles Minor Midget AAA team were crowned
champions of the Waterloo Wolves Golden Puck tournament with teams from across
the Alliance, OMHA and GTHL in attendance.
On Friday to open the tournament Burlington met the Mississauga Rebels and came out on the short-end of a 6-4 loss. Regrouping for a second game against the Mississauga Senators saw the Eagles victorious with a 4-1 victory.
Saturday saw the Eagles meet the Hamilton Huskies the #2 Ranked Team in Alliance Hockey Weekly Rankings and come out 3-2 victors. The fourth and final game of the round robin was a 4-2 victory over the Markham Waxers.
Championship Sunday started with a 3-0 semi-final victory over the Chatham Kent Cyclones.
With the victory the Minor Midget AAA Eagles moved on to face the Alliance Hockey Top 5 Honourable Mention Lambton Jr. Sting in the final who had advanced with a 2-1 semi-final victory over the Mississauga Senators.
The championship game saw a hard fought 6-1 victory for the Eagles over the Lambton Jr. Sting and the Golden Puck Championship.
Forward Ryan McGuire led the tournament in scoring in six (6) games played with 5 goals and 7 assists for 12 points to go along with 18 penalty minutes.
Forward Will Fletcher tied for fifth in scoring in six (6) games played with 7 goals and 2 assists for 9 points and 16 penalty minutes.
Goaltender Colton Donaldson tied for third with a .90 Goals Against Average having played 150 minutes, allowing 3 goals with one shutout.
