Playing a Year Up Didn't Stop these Eagles
A great weekend at Notre Dame University, South Bend Indiana for the Atom AA Blue team. Over the course of the weekend they defeated every other team in their division, as they played all 2006 (Minor PeeWee) teams.
The weekend started with a 7-1 victory over the Cazenovia Chiefs 06 "AA", a great start to the weekend.
The second game was a battle against the Halton Hills Thunder 06 "A" team. It was a back and forth game but with less than four minutes left in the game, Eagles put the puck in the net to pull ahead 4-3. Working hard as a team they were able to hold their lead for the win.
A 5-2 win over the Muskegon Jr. Jacks 06 "A" team made them undefeated in the round robin and guaranteed their spot as the home team in the Championship Final.
The Final was played at the Lefty Smith Arena, on the same ice as they watched the Notre Dame Irish vs. Penn State game the night before. Seeded #1 after the round robin they played the #2 seeded Halton Hills Thunder 06 "A" team. Fighting against their exhaustion, at the end of regulation time, the score was tied 2-2. The game ended with a heartbreaking Halton Hills goal during sudden death overtime.
Battling players a year older these Eagles proved that their quickness and hard work means more than size and age.
A great weekend in South Bend Indiana where the players learned all about what it means to "Play Like a Champion Today".
