FORMER NHL'R AND AHL All-STAR/LEAGUE MVP COREY LOCKE JOINS THE EAGLES
The Burlington Eagles are pleased to welcome Corey Locke as our
new Director of Coach and Player Development.
Mike
Schutte will remain in a support role as the Program Coordinator. Corey is passionate about player
development and brings a wealth of experience to the role. Corey
believes in Game-Play Practices with Game Sense Training a philosophy that will
become the cornerstone of our Eagles Next Level Training Program.
After an outstanding minor hockey career Corey was drafted by the Ottawa 67's and went on to become a league all-star and MVP. He led the OHL in scoring during the 2002-03 season with 151 points a high water mark that has not been surpassed since.

“I am honoured to work for the Burlington City Rep Hockey Club as the Director of Coach and Player Development. I recently retired from playing professional hockey after fifteen seasons. The City of Burlington has been my home since I turned professional while playing for the Montreal Canadiens American Hockey League (AHL) team, the Hamilton Bulldogs. My wife and our daughter are active in the Burlington community and love living in this city. Since retiring, I have been working with the Guelph Storm in the Ontario Hockey League as an Assistant Coach."
Continued Locke "It is time for me to give back and help the next generation of Burlington Eagles hockey players and support our coaches by helping create an environment where players will have a life-long "love and passion" for the game of hockey. The best development for our Eagles will occur when they are having FUN and are engaged. Players will be put in an environment by the coaches that allow them to multi-task, problem-solve, improve decision-making and develop their hockey skills. Players will be encouraged to learn from their mistakes. The player and coach development process should be encouraged in all team activities which will allow the goal of each team to be successful in their respective leagues. I look forward to seeing you all in the rinks.”
As a young player Corey grew up playing in his home town Newmarket. His dad was a big believer in confined space training so he spent a great deal of time working on his skills and game sense at a local small area rink. He recalls going to practice and training sessions as always being fun for him. He quickly developed his hockey skills, hockey sense and passion for the game. A passion he carries to the rink to this day.
Corey has played for many great coaches over the years and brings a wealth of knowledge to go along with his extensive experience. He played over a 1,000 games as a professional winning two Calder Cup Championships, a German Championship and was an AHL All-Star six (6) time. Nine seasons in the AHL/NHL with six more in Finland, Germany, Switzerland and Austria before hanging them up after the 2018-19 season.
