Heading into the 2020-21 hockey season, the Burlington Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) are proud and excited to announce an official partnership with the Burlington Eagles Rep Hockey Club of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).

As two long-established and well-respected institutions within the community of Burlington, Ontario this partnership will align the values, resources and vision of the two organizations as we continue to develop and produce elite athletes on the ice and upstanding members of the community off of it.

“This partnership is long overdue; I believe this is a situation where we can actually turn back the clock,” Cougars head coach and general manager Mark Jooris said. “We want to have our Burlington kids come through the Eagles system and want to be Burlington Cougars.”

A former Burlington Cougars player and Burlington native himself, Jooris has seen the development of the Junior A program, now in his third stint coaching the team. Over the years the organization has blossomed into an important fixture in the community as well as for the players as they embark on further athletic and academic goals.

“We want to work with the coaches to make the transition as seamless as possible for the players,” Jooris added. “We will be back at Central Arena and I think we can grow our fan base and create a fantastic event on Friday nights for our community. I’m excited to be a part of it!”

The Burlington Eagles organization seeks to mold its athletes, through the great Canadian passion of hockey, into responsible future leaders and caring citizens, whose paths will also be defined by a quest for excellence in all they do.

“The Burlington Eagles rep hockey club is an important part of the familIes in Burlington. I believe there is a need to connect that to the junior A team in town,” said Dave Armstrong, President of Burlington City Rep Hockey Club.

“The Burlington Cougars can help us with development and they can become leaders and mentors to our players. We can support each other and become a stronger presence in the community.”

Engaging in community events, fundraising efforts and charitable campaigns, the Burlington Cougars organization has long been a staple of the communal values that the city prides itself upon. With the fusion between the minor hockey and junior hockey programs, the ultimate goal is to groom our young Eagles players and have them become future Cougars.

On-ice player development, recruiting, coaching and progression into college/professional hockey and life remains a paramount goal. However, the two organizations are looking forward to fostering leadership and social responsibility amongst our student-athletes as they graduate through the ranks of hockey.

We encourage you to get involved in this journey throughout the off-season and into the 2020-21 hockey season. Stay tuned to the Burlington Cougars website and social media channels for more information.
