If you are the parent of
a five or six year old (2012 or 2013 born) who loves hockey then you should
consider the Burlington Junior Eagles program! The Junior Eagles is a team
based skills, drills and game focused program for players who would like to
progress to Burlington Eagles Rep hockey in the Tyke age groups and beyond.
Players will be encouraged to try their best, improve their skills and have fun
in a competitive and supportive environment.
Junior Eagles Details
Cost: $625.00 for approximately 40 hours of on ice instruction at Nelson arena and The Pond
Season Details: Starts - Wednesday October 10th 2018
Ends - Friday March 9th, 2019
Registration: - Capped at 80 players
- Registration will be open until 80 players have registered

- The Junior Eagles is the starting point of Burlington Eagles Rep Hockey
- Junior Eagles are 2012 and 2013 born players (5 and 6 year olds) for the 2018/2019 hockey season
- 2 hours of ice time per week using a rotating schedule of Monday and Wednesday or Wednesday and Friday
- Junior Eagles must be living at an address in Burlington
- Wednesday ice time is at Nelson Arena and Mondays and Fridays are at the Pond
Goals of the program:
In coordination with the Burlington City Rep Hockey Club mission statement, The Junior Eagles coaches believe that developing the values of character, education, integrity, leadership, teamwork, quality of life and altruism should begin when players enter the Burlington Eagles organization. Burlington Eagles hockey players will be encouraged to be leaders, caring citizens and aspire to excellence in all they do on and off the ice.
Is Junior Eagles the Hockey Program for your child?
The Burlington Eagles want to encourage all players to have a great experience playing hockey and hope they become lifelong players, coaches and fans of hockey. To be sure that Junior Eagles is the correct choice for your child, consider the questions below:
- Does your child enjoy hockey?
- Has your child taken a learn to skate program or spent time on the backyard rink?
- Can they use a forward stride, skate backwards, snowplough stop with some effectiveness?
- Are they ready to attempt crossovers, two foot stops and forward to backwards transitions?
- Are they ready to practice handling the puck and shooting?
The Junior Eagles and Hockey Canada
- The Junior Eagles follow Hockey Canada’s guidelines for cross ice hockey
- Hockey Canada skills and drill manuals and online resources are the basis of instruction for the Junior Eagles program
- Head coaches of the Junior Eagles program are NCCP Coach 1 trained as a minimum
Hockey Canada Coach 1 areas of focus:
- Use HOCKEY CANADA resources to plan on/off-ice activities;
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, officials and league administrators;
- Encourage participants and work within fair play guidelines;
- Conduct safe, effective and age appropriate on-ice practice drills;
- Apply an ethical decision making process.

Junior Eagles and Next Level Training opportunities (NLT)
Next Level Training provided by the Burlington Eagles organization means accessing the very best local hockey skills instructors for all of the Eagles teams.
For the Junior Eagles, Next Level Training happens through accessing the instructors at The Pond for the Monday power skating sessions with Michele, Ryan or Greg Moore.
Additional sessions with NLT instructors will be provided throughout the season and also assist with coach training to start the season.

The Pond Partnership
-50% of Junior Eagles ice time take place at The Pond.
- The Pond ice dimensions are 60 feet x 50 feet, an ideal size for 3 on 3 games and skills development for the Junior Eagles
- The Pond Instructors: Greg Moore, Michele Moore, Ryan Moore, Josh Egan, Graham Agnew have extensive hockey and skating experience as players and coaches.

Junior Eagles Coach, trainer and off ice volunteer opportunities
Coaches: 1 head coach and 1 assistant coach for each Junior Eagles team (typically 8 teams)
Trainers: 4 trainers. (2 for each Jr. Eagles division which is a group of 4 teams)
Social/Community Contact: 2 people for organizing team social activities in addition to organizing events and fundraisers for the following beneficiaries:
Parent Representative: 2 people (1 for each division) to be a connection to the head coaches for suggestions, observations and concerns.
