Atom A Off To The Semis
This Friday, the Eagles Atom A team will face the St. Thomas Junior Stars in game one of their semi-final round. As last year's OMHA champions, this series is sure to be the Atom A’s toughest yet.
Undefeated in the Round Robin, the fifth placed team went on to face first place Centre Wellington Fusion who had only lost one game in the regular season. As the only team to have beaten them, the Eagles’ confidence was high going into the series. Even the worst winter driving conditions wouldn’t stop the boys from taking 2 wins on the road, upsetting the Fusion in 3 hard fought games.
The next challenge came in the quarter finals where the boys faced the Woolwich Wildcats, a team they had not managed to beat in regular season. The Wildcats didn’t know what hit them when the team took the series in 3 straight wins. The final game brought us into the semis with a late third period goal by Ethan Strang and an amazing save by Hugo Barreto with only seconds left in the game.Despite the strong record of the Alliance AA team, the Coaching Staff and the Eagles Atom A team has already proven they are more than ready for the challenge. -written by Kelly Dunbavin
