The Minor Atom AAA Eagles travelled
to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Nation's Cup last weekend to join fellow SCTA
teams, Halton Hurricanes and Niagara North Stars. These three teams along with
five other Canadian Teams got the chance to play against some of the best
skaters the USA has to offer.
Facing tough competition in the round robin by teams from St. Clair Shores, Chicago, Cleveland and Saginaw, the boys placed second in their division. Needing 11 points for Canada to win gold, the team had a chance to earn 3 of those points for a win against the Chicago Hawks. Looking up at a 2-1 deficit after the first period, the Eagles knew they needed to turn up the heat. Supported by solid defense and goal tending, the offense took over and scored four goals in the second and two in the third, besting the Hawks 7-3. Thanks to Coach Andy for getting the Detroit Red Wings tickets and to Coach Kevin for arranging to meet and watch former Burlington Eagle and now University of Michigan field lacrosse star, Brent Noseworthy.
