The Eagles hosted the Woolwich
Wildcats Wednesday night. A game that started out in favour of the Eagles ended
in controversy and confusion as the Eagles lost 3-2.
It was a great start for the Eagles as they carried the play for most of the first period. Easton opened the scoring and Gavin followed it up with a goal of his own just before the period ended. The second period was completely different. Woolwich came out skating hard and the Eagles looked a little lost. With the Wildcats on the powerplay they won the faceoff in the offensive zone and quickly put it in the back of the net to make it 2-1. Another goal came on a bad line change leaving the Eagles scrambling to get in the play. The period ended 2-2. By the third period the Eagles had lost their legs, but we’re doing as much as they could to stay in the game. Woolwich was able to pot one more goal to take a 3-2 lead. With less than 2 mins left Easton broke free from the defense and looked like he had scored. However the refs waved off the goal saying it didn’t cross the goal line. This created confusion at the bench as some players were celebrating and others were coming on the ice for the next shift. As it turns out the Eagles were denied their goal, were assessed a too many men penalty, and lost the game 3-2. It was an unfortunate end to the game that started off so promising. The Eagles will travel to Woolwich on Saturday.
