Tyke tryout formats are different from those used from Novice to Minor Midget. The main reason is that all those trying out are “new” entrants to competitive hockey.
Colour Team Assignments
After registration, players will be assigned randomly to a ‘colour’ team - Red, White, Navy, or Gold and notified by e-mail which “Team” colour to report to. Players will then follow their “Team” colour assignment for tryout sessions as indicated on the Tryout Calendar.
These sessions will be a combination of drills, and scrimmages. All of our Tyke coaches will be in attendance for these sessions. They will be closely monitoring each player for their present skill level, work ethic, desire/determination, coachablility, etc.
Group Sessions
There are also two “Group” sessions. Players will be divided into either “Group A” or “Group B”. Players will be advised via e-mail as to which of the “Group” sessions to attend. These will be primarily skating, and hockey drills sessions. All coaches will be in attendance at all sessions.
Final Skates
Following the Group sessions each player will be assigned to one of the three “Final Skates” i.e. 1, 2, or 3. A player’s assignment to one of these sessions, whilst an indicator, may not be their final rostered team assignment, as each session will have extra players. Players will be advised via e-mail which “Final Skate” to attend.
Final Status
After all the Final Skates, the coaches will then pick their teams. All players (parents) will be notified via e-mail within one week as to their final status. Successful players will also be given instructions for team registration and fee payment details.
NOTES:
- Mouth guards are mandatory in the OMHA – including tryouts.
- Some players may be asked to attend more than one “Final Skate".
- Please do not approach the coaches as to your child’s performance.
