2008/09 Tryout Process

The tryout process for the 2008/09 season has been modified to allow for a minimum of 51 players (45 skaters and 6 goalies) in each division to be confirmed in the Spring as part of either the A, AA or AAA team.

Although there will not be a formal tryout process in the Fall, coaches will continue to evaluate their team, as well as the team(s) in the classification(s) below them, and as such, there will be player movement among the three teams in the Fall.

No player who is offered and signs a letter of commitment with the Burlington Eagles in the Spring will be displaced from the club in the Fall.

Guidelines for dealing with move in players, expanded roster sizes, Form 1 waivers and injured players are dealt with in separate sections of this document.

The tryout process will consist of five phases in each division:

Pre - Identification Session for Goalies – 1 session

This session will include all previous years Eagles A goalies and all new registrants.

Goalies will be evaluated by coaching staff as part of their overall evaluation in the identification camp.

All goalies from the Pre -Identification session will advance to the Identification camp.

Identification camp Skaters & Goalies – 4 sessions

This camp will include all previous year's Eagle A skaters and goalies, and all new registrations.

Players will be randomly placed into one of two groups (A or B) that will focus on evaluation of skills.

Each group will initially have 1 separate on ice session.

After this session, players will compete in two intra squad games on the team (Grey, Red or Blue) they were assigned to at registration, to allow coaches to evaluate game skills.

After each team has played two games, players will have a second on ice session in the same group as their first session.

At the completion of the identification camp, coaches will select a minimum of 15 skaters and 2 goalies to proceed to the next phase of the tryouts, the AA camp.

Players will be informed by email at a pre-designated time after the identification camp of their standing.

They will either advance to the AA camp or be re-assigned to House League.

Any players who played on an Eagle A team in the preceding year who are being reassigned will be communicated with via telephone by the coach, prior to the email being sent.

Players who are invited to the AA camp will be assured of a
position on an Eagle team in the fall, with their final placement
depending on their performance in the next set of tryouts.

Players identified to move ahead to the next tryout level must sign
a letter of commitment to the Eagles in order to move ahead to the
AA tryouts.

Letters will be available at the first AA tryout.

If any player does not sign the letter of commitment, they will not
be allowed to tryout any further, and their roster spot will be filled.

They are entitled to a AAA form 1 waiver if requested.

AA Camp

The AA camp will commence at the conclusion of the identification camp, and the camp will consist of all previous year AA players, as well as the 17 players who have advanced out of the identification camp and signed letters of commitment.

This camp will include skills evaluation as well as scrimmages.

The 17 players who advanced from the identification camp are guaranteed a minimum of 2 skates with the AA group.

All previous year's AA players are guaranteed to skate in all 4
sessions.

Players reassigned from the AA camp will automatically be
guaranteed a position on the A team, with the potential to move
up again in the fall.

At the conclusion of the AA camp, coaches will select a minimum
of 15 skaters and 2 goalies to proceed to the next phase of the
tryouts, the AAA camp.

All reassignments will be informed via a phone call from the
coach.

Players from the AA camp who are selected to attend the AAA
camp, and who have not yet signed a letter of commitment (last
year’s AA players) must sign a letter of commitment to the Eagles
in order to move ahead to the AAA tryouts.

Letters will be available at the first AAA tryout

If any player does not sign the letter of commitment, they will not
be allowed to tryout any further, and their roster spot will be filled.

Any player who is reassigned from the AA camp to the A team who has not yet signed a letter of commitment (last years AA players) must do so within 48 hours of the reassignment.

If a player does not sign the letter of commitment within the 48 hours, their roster spot on the A team will be offered elsewhere, and they will not be allowed to tryout any further.

They are entitled to a AAA form 1 waiver if requested.

AAA Camp

The AAA camp will commence at the conclusion of the AA camp, and the camp will consist of all previous year AAA players, as well as the 17 players’ who have been advanced from the AA camp and signed letters of commitment.

This camp will include skills evaluation as well as scrimmages.

The 17 players who attend from the AA camp are guaranteed a minimum of 2 skates with the group.

All previous year AAA players are guaranteed to skate in all 4
sessions.

At the conclusion of the AAA camp, coaches will select a
minimum of 15 skaters and 2 goalies for the AAA team.

Players from the AAA camp who are selected for the AAA team,
and who have not yet signed a letter of commitment (last year’s
AAA players) must sign a letter of commitment to the Eagles
within 14 days as per OHF rules
.

After 14 days, if a player does not sign the AAA card offered, he will lose his position on the AAA team, as well as all AAA form 1 Waiver privileges.

No Form 1 Waivers will be granted to any player offered a card for the AAA team.

Any player who is reassigned from the AAA camp to the AA team who has not yet signed a letter of commitment (last years AAA players) must do so within 14 days of the reassignment.

If a player does not sign the letter of commitment within the 14
days, their roster spot on the AA team will be filled, and they will
not be allowed to tryout any further.

Players being reassigned to the AA team may request a Form 1
Waiver

Final Skates

At conclusion of tryouts, each A, AA and AAA team will have a separate session with the 17 players who have made the Spring roster of the team.

This session will be either a skills session or exhibition game.

Form 1 Waivers

As in the past, BCHRC will not accept Form 1 waivers from
players outside of the community, unless the inclusion of the
player will benefit the entire club, or there is a shortage of players
in the age group.

If a waiver is accepted, no Burlington player will be displaced and
the team carrying the waiver player will be required to go with an
expanded roster.

Move in players

Players who move into Burlington after the Spring tryouts will not be allowed to tryout out for a team in the fall.

These players must register with House League, or the club will supply a Form 1 waiver for them to tryout with a surrounding center AAA team if they request it.

Expanded Roster Size

As has happened in the past, some coaches, particularly at the
older age groups may decide to retain an extra (18th) player.

If a coach makes this request it will be evaluated, and if a decision
is granted to allow it, it will be prior to the completion of
the Identification camp, so that the additional player(s) can be
included in the identification camp selection.

Injured players

If a current Burlington Eagle player becomes injured during tryouts, or is injured prior to the commencement of tryouts, each situation will be dealt with on its own merits.

Players may be assigned to their same level for the next year, or they may be re-assigned to a level below, after input and consultation from all involved coaches and convenors from previous and current years.

If a player from outside of the Eagles organization is injured and
cannot attend tryouts, that player, similar to a move in player, will
not be allowed to tryout out for a team in the fall.

These players must register with House League, or the club will
supply a Form 1 waiver for them to tryout with a surrounding
center AAA team if they request it.

Any re-assigned player can be offered an AP position for the
upcoming season.
