Mike Schutte: Coaches Consultant – Coordinator of Player Development
After many meetings including a brain storming session with our Player Development Committee and plenty of hours of research, our season’s agenda has now been set. For this program to have maximum value and benefit we will need the full support of all our coaches, managers, conveners, parent reps, parents and the players. Please note that after researching the proposal by our committee to look into spinning classes rather than off ice training it was decided to go back to Plan A. I spoke to some experts and did some research that showed that spinning wasn’t the most beneficial in season training to pursue since it did little to improve agility and improve quick twitch muscles. Here is a breakdown.
- Midget AA and AAA, Minor Midget A, AA, AAA to receive 16 off ice training sessions at SST (Harrington Court off Harvester Rd. west of Walkers Line)
- Bantam A, AA, AAA, Minor Bantam A, AA, AAA to receive 16 off ice training sessions at Twist Conditioning (at The Wave on Northside south of Mainway)
Managers are asked to schedule their team’s monthly training dates/times with Sean McBride at SST 905-632-3558 and Scott Atkins or Carmen Deacetis at Twist at 905-336-3434 ext. 22 as soon as you receive the following months schedule.
- PeeWee A, AA, AAA, Minor PeeWee A, AA, AAA, Atom A, AA, AAA, Minor Atom A, AA, AAA, Novice A, AA, AAA, Tyke A, AA, AAA will receive extra on-ice power skating sessions as follows;
- Sunday mornings at The Wave 8:00am to 9:00am or 9:00am to 10:00am starting on September 28th
- In addition, every month each team will see one of their practices run by a qualified power skating instructor.
Note: Teams will double up so that we put 4 teams on the ice every Sunday or in more simple terms, every team will attend approximately once every 5 weeks. The scheduling of these training sessions will be done by myself in cooperation with The Wave and team Managers. Managers, please notify me well in advance of any conflicts you may have besides the tournaments that I am already privy to.
Goaltenders
58 Goaltenders from Tyke A to Midget AAA will attend Kenesky’s at The Wave on Sunday mornings between 8:00am and 10:00am starting on September 28th. Sessions will be scheduled by myself, again with the cooperation with Kenesky’s and team Managers. In addition, we are pleased that Rod Kirk has agreed to be our Eagles Goalie Development Coordinator. He will complement Kenesky’s and other goaltending camps by working with our goalies/teams/coaches throughout the year.
Coaches Meetings / Guest Speakers
Starting with our first of many meetings on September 28th, we will be covering many topics such as the technical part of hockey and mental preparedness. We will be inviting guest speakers to some of our meetings that we feel are relevant and beneficial to the overall development of our players/coaches.
Information Day – Fan Forum
We are in the early stages of planning an Information Day in the new year for parents/players/staff to attend. Topics will include hockey opportunities after minor hockey, OHL Priority Draft, Agents, role of amateur and professional scouts, NCAA recruiting and off-ice training/nutrition. |
